Hi! So I´m kind of new here and I could really use some advice...
I´ve just tried an Ibanez SR300 (active) and an Epiphone Standard IV (pasive). They both sounded really similar, but the Ibanez had a littler deeper sound.

So, I wanted to ask: Is the fact that the Ibanez is much lighter than the Epiphone a bad thing? Does the weight of the bass matter when it comes to its sound?
And is the Ibanez a better bass because it is an active one?

    thanks!

Those basses are both kind of light weight. There shouldn't be any problems except if you have shoulder problems. Tone shouldn't be a problem, I've played good sounding light and heavy basses :)

I personally don't care if bass is active or passive, take the one you like better :)

That depends if you prefer bass guitars that are light-weighted or if you prefer bass guitars that has a little more weight. there's really nothing wrong with owning a light-weighted bass guitar. many of them has amazing sound quality. the Ibanez soundgear basses is one of the many light-weighted bass guitars that has amazing sound quality. if you plan to buy the Ibanez sr300, by all means buy one.
