ICESTORM...

jimbob said:
HORNELL!!! My inlaws live in Belmont in the summer!
I hope your daughter is ok....the 'Cuse will get some snow without warning sometimes.
Be careful going home my man...take your time...this storm is unusual!

All the best

My daughter is fine, thanks for your concern. No damage to her, just the car.

She's in Cato, about 11 miles from Lake Ontario so they get a LOT of Lake Effect snow.

Yea, Hornell. A small city in the middle of nowhere that died after the Erie Railroad left in the 70's. Decent music scene though, even if it is only on weekends. Better in Bath, Corning and Olean

The snow is the main reason that I modified my travel plans for my company. I didn't want to drive down and back today because of the snow so I came down yesterday and I'm leaving tomorrow when most of the "damage" is done.

If you ever show up in Belmont, give me a yell and we can get together.

I'm in Gainesville, GA (45min N of ATL)...about 40,000 people in the area w/o power for most of the morn/day.
The schools are closed in my area (I'm a band director...woo-hoo!) due to lack of power, not road conditions...same again tomorrow.
I've been lucky and only been w/o power about 4 hrs throughout the day...
gotten alot of bass and trombone practice in today in prep for upcoming gigs! (this never seems to happen :hmm: )
Roads are great now...plan to get out tomorrow.

Cato!!!BRRRRRR!!!
Bath...Knew a blonde there in my single days... ;)
Corning...Home of Glass and some of the most durable china you can buy...guaranteed forever! I worked for a distributor out of Horseheads called Empire Foods around the time I knew the Bath girl :)
Olean...St Bonnies and home of "Hickey Hall" (My last name but I have nothing to do with the hall)

I am hoping to get up there this summer...I will let you know when for sure!

Iowa's been getting snow and ice every few days for a month maybe. My heater was broken the week it was below 0 (F) about as often as it was above. Somebody from Canada's interior should post and one-up all of us.

Driving in snowy/icy weather isn't exactly rocket science. If everybody knows what they're doing and there aren't too many hills to contend with then it's no big deal. Otherwise, prepare to play bumper cars or become a vehicular gutter ball.

Sounds good. Maybe my band will have a gig when/if you make it.

BTW, drove home from VA yesterday on roads wet with melting snow. Around 40 most of the way. Ran into some crappy road conditions in the mountains between Williamsport and Mansfield PA, then it started to snow about 15 miles from home. Apparently Hornell got snow and freezing rain during that storm, but not too much.

In other words, it wasn't near as bad as the weather people were making it out to be. At least not in my area.

from southern ontario but will say... takes more then 7" of snow to shut Canada down. I mustt say through this snow it wasn't too bad, only around freezing. I think it was -21C if I remember correctly on my way to work tuesday about 6:15am. That is what my fathers jimmy said anyways. So add the wind. Thank god I don't live up in refrew county anymore

We had a cold snap last week or the week before. Until then it had been unseasonably warm and dry all year. The ice storm that was slapping you all around might be the same one that went through here. Let me just say that you all may THINK your drivers are idiots when it comes to ice or snow...I definitely KNOW our drivers are idiots when it comes to driving on anything slick.
