ID This Bad A*$ Ric Copy!

www.kurosawagakki.com and www.ishibashi.co.jp can both sell them and will ship them to the US.

Thanks again for the info. I'll tell you , it's tempting. I'm just worried about getting ripped off, or the thing getting lost in transist. Maybe I'm being overly cautious.

I'd buy it in a flash if it were sold by MF, GC, of my local dealer. Like I said, it's a terrific looking bass. :bassist:

I rank it right up there with my Ric 4001, 4003, & Gibson Thunderbirds. :)

More pics of this hotty. These are some of the inards. Check out the 6-pole pickup (just like Ric made). Not some cheap imitation. Routes are very well cut and electronics were wired with great care. It's a very high quality build for sure!

I've bought at least 10-15 basses and guitars from sellers in Japan over the years, including Ishibashi, and I've never had a problem with any of them in any way. EMS shipping (basically like U.S. Priority mail) is top notch (and fast), every seller I encountered went out of their way to disclose any perceived problems (with finish or construction, etc), and every package was packed professionally with care. I wouldn't hesitate to buy from Japan again or to encourage anyone else to. If you find something you like and can afford, go for it!

I see the future!

A fake guitar in every home!

....and China rules musical instrument manufacturing!

:hyper: :rollno: :bassist: :spit: :bawl: ;) :atoz: :D :help:

So what you're saying is that everyone has the right to share in the goodness. :) I suppose you're right, everyone deserves a chance to be up to bat. :hyper:

I appreciate the input/feedback. I really like that bass I pointed out. :bassist:

As to the subject of trademark infringement etc...If I was to build a bass for myself, and only myself who is to say I can't? Even if it is a dead ringer for something that is copyrighted or trademarked?

There was a thread here a while back where a TB'er built a dead nuts ringer for a Ricky, and the general thought was as long as he did not try to sell it it was fine. Copyrights and Trademarks mean someone cannot make your product, and sell it as yours and in some cases sell it as their own brand though it is a dead ringer for the real deal. Think lawsuit copies etc...

Also, if I was to build a dead ringer of a 4003 but had no name and Rick wanted to pursue me, I would make a total mockery of the judicial process and cost them a stink pot full of money for me owning something I built for personal use only.

I respect Ricks stance on copies, even if I do think it is a bit strong. It is their property, their design, so be it. However, I have to wonder how much money and resources are spent chasing ever average Joe who is selling a copy that could be used to step up QC or production etc..

Where I have a real issue is someone passing a copy off as an original, that is fraud and totally wrong.

That all said, I will have a Rick one day soon, it will be genuine and brand new.

The Rickenball shows that you are going to get that brand new Rickenbacker bass too! ;)

So go ahead and place your order today. You'll get it in about three years. Plenty of time to save up for one! :D

Replaced all the pots in mine tonight. Had one go bad (broken shaft end) and the new one had a different feel when turned (more resistance), so rather have one pot that feels different, I just replaced them all. I'm keeping the original pots too.

Ordered brand new Ric knobs and my truss rod cover ("Rickenfaker") will be here soon, making here complete. Woohoo!!!!!!!!!
