Ideal Bass Tone

it depends so much on context, witch is something i used to never "get." on some beatles tunes, mccartneys hofner is exactly what you need and fits perfectly. other times i really dig tal wilkenfelds sadowsky, or owen biddles 30" scale 6 string on the last roots album. (did i really just mention two 30" scale basses in this thread, while my bass is 35.5" scale?) richard bona's fretless sounds fantastic on lots of tracks too.

but if you switched the basses between any of these people it probably woulden't sound too good. yet i consider each of them perfect. as well as my own sound, witch is kind of different from each of the above. context - and everyone elses sound - is almost more important than your own gear and tone.
