I have to part with my C-1 for about ten weeks. It's going to stay with a luthier for a bit. I play in a roots trio; jazz, folk, country, bluegrass, it's difficult to label. I'm going to drive about a hour and a half to look at this. Don't really dig that it's painted, I can deal with that. The owner has no idea of what it is and I can pick it up for $800. Any input would be very helpful. Yes, I use a bow about 1/3rd of the time.

Double Bass Identification/info help

Aside from the paint job, it looks like a bass made/marketed under the "Anton Schroetter" umbrella. If it sounds good and plays nice, $800 is a good price.
i wouldn't touch that thing...
it may be a perfectly cool bass for cheap, but to me the fact that someone who owned it painted it means god knows how else they mistreated it.. could easily be a disaster.

Joe German ply. Buy it for five, strip off all that slop, keep it as a backup. You could do worse.
+1, I'd probably snag it if I were looking for one. At least the paint looks thin, my first bass had probably 10 coats of Krylon.. citristrip works wonders if you go that route (for me it took the paint off a bass and left the existing finish beneath), just wear gloves, mask off the f-holes and use plastic sheeting on the floor. But it is a full afternoon's work for sure. As painted basses go it's pretty easy on the eyes honestly, I might be tempted to just swap some strings, simplify whatever's going on at the bridge, and go.
