Identify my new Rickenbacker?

So, the Rickenbacker model ID thing isn't working... hmmm...

Anyway- I'm buying this bass off a friend, but I've never seen it before. Basically, it's a Rickenbacker 4001-ish looking bass, just without the binding and with dot inlays and a mono output. Here's a pic of it, albeit not in my hands-

Any help?

It has a chrome pickguard? If yes, it identical to mine, a 4001S from 1977.

It's a white pickguard. I don't have its serial number until I pick it up from him tomorrow or Wednesday, but I think we have a match there!

EDIT: Maybe not... mine has only one output.

Yes! It seems to be a 4001S. When u got the serial, u will the exact model and year of fabrication. Congratulations, its a awesome bass!

It looks more like an early 90s 4003s to me from the picture ...

It's Crispin's. He's needing to get rid of some stuff, so I'm helping him out by buying t'bass- it's not really his *thing*, so to speak, and he needs the money. That, and I need a new bass after this happened:

Nomi had a really cool bass, this old Overwater, but it lost its headstock! I hope she gets it fixed soon...

It's cool that you can help Crispin out this way. I definitely understand needing to sell stuff to pay urgent bills, I had to sell my fave guitar a decade ago just to pay a crazy phone bill, and I miss it to this day. I hope that when the new QA album gets worldwide release he'll see some decent cash flow again! I hope he's doing alright otherwise....

Nah, Nomi's just... exploded. It was fine when she got on the tube, but when she got back to the flat and opened her case to show me, the headstock had snapped off- really odd.

Crispin and Nomi are both doing fine. Djin is absolutely awesome and it should definately make them a fair amount of wad. Of course, everyone needs money right now- I got evicted from my flat the other week so I'm sleeping on my singer/guitarist's sofa!!!

Well definitely keep us updated about the Rickenbacker, I know I'm curious to find out what you think of it and how it sounds...

Oh, and Djin is amazing. Nomi used a Z Vex Woolly Mammoth on pretty much all the bass parts, so the bass is really dirty!
