Identify this bass!

Definitely a kramer. Even sounds like an aluminum bass to me (have two.)

look up kramer aluminum bass on ebay to see a few examples.

Hartke did make an aluminum necked bass but changed the headstock. They actaully got kramer's permission and design and added a truss rod and a wood backing on the neck. Hartke Xk4 and XL4 and one of those as a XK5 or XL5. I have an XL4.

Vaccaro also made an aluminum neck bass with the same headstock, but with a truss rod and a wood backing. Vaccaro made Hartke's necks for them. Vaccaro X-Ray bass... have one... hard to find.

But seeing how that was 1982 definitely a kramer. 2 things about kramers, they are a bit cold to the touch (aluminum backing) and they had no truss rod.

That is why I finally sold all three of my Kramers. I had a fretless P, an 8-string and a trans red Duke. Loved many things about them - some monster sounds - but those cold necks made my hands hurt too much.

Peace,

Suz,

get a vaccaro or a hartke. You can swing a Hartke XL-4 for under $500 with patience (list is $2500.) They are not very attractive basses but they sure do sound awesome and have great electronics.
