Identify this Gibson

Discussion in 'Miscellaneous [BG]' started by PanteraFan, Jul 16, 2004.

  1. Hey. Just found this on my friend's wall, have no idea what it is but it sounds and plays great, so just wanted to know what the hell sort of Gibson it is? A friend is very tempted to buy it but would appreciate some background info.

  2. Headstock. Serial number on back is 500376, "Made in USA".

Well, the guitar is built before 1977, because since 1977 introduced another serial nummer system, which contains 8 numbers and yours contains only 6...thats all I can tell you for the moment..

You should check out the Gibson site, you can download a pdf file, containing a load of data on this subject, so go check it out!

That's a Gibson L6-S, designed by Bill Lawrence. The Blue Book says they were made from 1973-80, but I don't think they made many after 1976.

Bill has a page about it: http://www.billlawrence.com/Pages/L6S.htm
  6. Yup, a L6. My friend Steve Blake just got one. Heavy. Ugly. Bright sounding. THIN, wide body... crazy...don't care for the tone.

    Can be had relatively cheap....

    It's Debbie,

I'd know that insouciant teeny-bopper anywhere.
