Identity crisis?

Good catch. I've never seen one (Fender or Squier) with that bridge with the screws up top.
I have an older Squier P-Bass with that Bridge.

I'm no expert either. But to me, the pickguard beveling doesn't look right. The tuner mounting plates look small and the tuners themselves look different than those in pictures I've seen of MIJ basses from that era...

Its fake. I dont even think its a squier, very few of those are natural and the neck is unlike a squier neck I have seen. Frankly there are thousands of rip off name brands out there so who knows what it is. It looks about as nice as a SX so I would value it at $100 and hope you didnt pay more then that for it.

A couple things look off to me. Any discrepancy in the serial like what you are telling us is immediately a disqualifying quality for me unless it was the same price as a thrashed squier. The grain and wood quality does not look like a Fender I've seen before (not a giveaway, but it does look a bit strange compared to many USA Fenders I've seen). The tuners strike me as cheaper. Also, can't say I've ever seen a stock Fender pickguard that was that dark. Wouldn't trust, wouldn't buy.

HOWEVER

The only red flag here that is a giveaway as far as I'm concerned is the serial and possibly the tuners. Besides that, if it plays hard and you love the feel/sound I'd rock it if you didn't get taken too badly.

Thanks for all the feedback, guys. Disappointed it's not what I hoped but..on the up side..it plays fine and feels fine and I didn't pay a lot for it. And I still like the looks. Cheers from sunny Scotland.
Enjoy playing. That's what it's all about. I love Scotland. I've been there twice and hope to make back for a visit someday. Cheers!

If it plays and sounds well at the right price, you got a deal, even if it isn't what it claims to be. Me, I'd scrape the bogus decals off and put something creative on. But do what thou wilt!
