IEM suggestion

I have an upgraded cable on my 1964 A8's.. I went thru 3 of their "stock" cable with their Qi's in 2 yrs, so decided to upgrade.
18 months in and upgraded cable is rock solid.
I bought one of these - Link Removed with a STRAIGHT 1/8" jack... not right angle.
Been awesome.. worth every penny.. got over 100 gigs on it.

They are like over $100 for the cable? this would totally diminish buying a $20 pair of cheap buds.

I had some cash in my reverb account from selling some things last month. Picked up some westone umpro50s at a discount. Price looked like a good deal. Anyone have experience with these? .....i know, I know.....should ask questions before I buy:bag:

Westone demo'd UM Pro 50's at Anaheim NAMM this year. They had a live band at their booth... they gave us foam tips, so we can hear them on the 50's. I couldn't justify paying a lot for basically ear buds... but that was the day when I realized multiple driver IEM's makes a big difference. After the demo, I was planning to personally buy UM Pro 50's, but then our church offered to buy the core/regular team customs. If I didn't know how custom's work better for me over universals... I think I would be more than satisfied with the UM Pro 50's.

@Robb Fesig : Did you go with the 200's or the 500's on the TSX/Comply mix?
I've got the Aurasonic/Fender FXA6 with Comply 400's(IIRC on the Comply) and also ordered the TSX's+better cable as backup.
Thanks!

Re lack of sensation and feeling isolated
If you are having this issue and you are able (ie. Desk has enough sends) then try running a stereo feed to your iem.
The differenfe is amazing.
Fuller sound. Less volume required for clarity and you can use the stereo space so that instruments don't fight.

I know this post is a little old but I have to echo this sentiment. I play with a guitarist that has the same in ear transmitter as me and for the last two gigs he has "forgotten" to bring his transmitter and only had his receiver and ears. The solution of course being that we switch to mono mode and both use the same transmitter, which we did regularly at one point.

Now I've been running stereo with every group that I play with for quite a while and after the second gig of going back to mono I had to tell him that we won't be doing that again. It's just not the same at all.

That's like forgetting to bring your amp !! :rollno:

Absolutely true.
Although it still messes with me a bit when I turn my the the wrong way and the guitar players' amps are in the wrong ears :)

I only typically play with one guitarist so I tend to put the guitar on one side and the vocals that are not mine on the other side. Someone is always in the wrong place in my world :roflmao:. It does help create space for my bass though so I don't mind.

Dual drivers may well be fine for many folks. It boils down to personal preference IME.
I recommend TRIPLES because of the full range frequency split capability, and that you can get pristine audio mixes with them.
Budget is.. a factor tho..

How would this differ from running sound into a personal headphone mixer to Eq the frequencies to taste, then running that into a single driver? Curious. Is it because you get drivers that are more designed to produce clear low frequencies when there are multiple?

I'm not up to speed on what's available in Germany, buy I highly recommend that whatever you go with, you spend the $$$ on TRIPLE driver IEM's, or at least DUAL drivers at a minimum.
DO NOT GO CHEAP on your IEM's and AVOID single-driver buds.. you'll hate both choices if you do and blame the IEM's.
I've seen it happen numerous times.. both in person, and on forums like TB.

Why TRIPLE over single drivers?
Think about a PA system. Imagine how it would sound to the audience if you put kick, snare, hat, toms, guitars, 3 vocals, keys (and everything else) thru a single speaker !!
It would sound like CR*P !! NO separation, no definition and it will all turn to garbled-mush pretty quickly.
Why would you want to put that right next to your ears ???????
That's what you get with single-drivers.
TRIPLE drivers will let you [selectively] boost/cut each frequency range, bump the lows, give you FAR better low-end clarity, definition and separation. The same for the mids and highs - just like it would on a PA system.

Customs molds are obviously going to be more expensive than universals, but generally give you better isolation and do not break the seal when you open your mouth or sing.
Westone's have VERY high ratings for universals - UM-30, AM-30 and W-30. I am not affiliated w/ Westone BTW.
Take a look at what else is out there in the market.. it will give you an idea of the kind of budget you will need.

If you can't afford decent triple driver universal IEM's.. save the money for them!!
Cheap IEM's will work.. but you'll get more distortion and ear fatigue far faster than good buds, and you'll end up upgrading them anyway. Buy once, cry once.
I'm saying this.. because over the last 7 yrs - I've been there, done that.. got the complete T-shirt collection.

Thank you for posting that. I'd heard about why people swear by multiple drivers, isolation, etc, but didn't really know why they were considered so imperative. I've never played via IEM's before and literally JUST decided I wanted to try them out. I ALWAYS have to deal with crappy stage sound when playing through a PA. When I play directly through my cab, the sound is great, but through PA's, I get no clarity and can't really control my sound the way I'd like to. I don't blame the FOH, I just think stage sound is crap, generally.
Considering all that, I'm really curious about IEM's, and this post helped a bit. Gonna do some pretty extensive research from here.
