Wow. It vaguely resembles one of those old Soviet basses, yet carries an air of class all its own. I dig.
Don't get me wrong. I feel most at home on a Jazz and always will. But I feel like this has been way more fun. It's eye opening and it's thought provoking. Good thread.

Two months ago I bought a Squier Contemporary Active Jazz bass...Limited Edition in Midnight Satin. Turned out to be a pleasant surprise because I didn't know the newer Squiers were that good.

Sorry, but two favorite basses (right now) are both FSOs and "copies" of 7ender products.
If pressed, I'd go to my (semi- and used to be) FSO with a killer neck.
Of course, I won't be gigging again for a while (I've had pretty bad setback) so maybe my opinion isn't relevant.

The more recent (2017ish and up) Squiers are absolutely worth a closer look. Pleasant surprise is probably the correct term.
My friend bought one of the active electronic models and was having a tuning issue. He asked me to look at it and the nut was chipped and someone (?)at the factory(?) had used curly, gnarled plastic shavings as a "shim" under the A string.
I will never understand the resistance to just make bone nuts standard. Hell, even Epiphone has been doing it for a few years.
My early-2000s 34" scale LTD F-205 and hmm... I'm between a few other LTDs as my second. The practical choice would be one of the new D-5s, the "want" choice is an F-1005, and if discontinued basses are fair game, then the BB-1005 (Bunny Brunel sig) is in the running.
I think I'll go D-5 as my second. Preferably one that's under 9 pounds.
