I now have 2! The NYC P/J 5 that I just picked up in the TB classifieds feels and sounds like a better made instrument than my previous Fender CS Jazz V, which just felt sluggish and a chore to play, and it was over 10 lbs!! Too heavy!!

This probably has been stated earlier, but to me this issue comes down to simply passive vs. active. If I want a truly passive bass, Fender is the only option. If I were to go the active route I'd pick a Sadowsky hands down. Personally, I prefer passive instruments so it's a no-brainer.

I admit Sadowsky is probably the better built bass, but I am not the better bass player, and am happy with Fender's. I'd love a 54 P bass.

that's funny because i was trying to explain to someone what the difference was between my sadowsky nyc and my american fender and i said that even though they kinda' look similar, the sadowsky feels like a ferrari and the fender felt like a nice ford truck; sleek, ultra light, sophisticated with very tight tolerances versus a dependable workhorse that was a bit clunky. btw, i would compare my metro 5 to a lexus sedan, which has most everything you could ask for, except for the lightness and extra fast neck profile, which to me, is the x factor between the nyc and metros.

while we're at it, i would compare fodera to a rolls royce phantom, both of which are not the fastest, lightest, nor the best bang-for-the-buck out there, but they don't need to be because they're the top dogs, regardless of the naysayers. i mean, phantoms come with mink floormats, which are just as unnecessary as fodera's pickups with wooden covers that cost $1200, but if you're into that sort of stuff, it's badass

While we're still at it, I'm "Sadowsky-less" but I'd compare my Lakland 55-94 to a Mercedes G500 Wagen because it's big bodied but still classy and smooth...

Somebody has probably said this, but why get a Carvin SB5000 or B5? They are way cheaper than a new Fender or Sadowsky and there are a ton of options that one can order. From everything I have read, the build quality is comparable to Sadowsky. Some former Sadowsky owners have let their basses go for one of the new Carvins.

Remove that stock supercharger and put on an Edelbrock high performing Supercharger and well, you've got a Sadowsky!

Since it is free, I would want a '63 Fender P bass. I think it would be hard to find a '63 Sadowsky.
