If someone handed you $3000 for a new bass

Status SII headles, neck-through lefty.
Or I'd give Mike Tobias a call.
Can I just buy 3 or 4 less expensive basses? I really like the look and sound of the pink Gamma that I saw on YouTube and I can always use another Hohner Jack custom. I could probably pick up both of them and still return $2000 for another bassist to use. :-)

Agreed.

Plenty of new and pre-owned gems out there in the sub-$1K range. Personally, I’d go for a new MIM Jazz with an HSC — and I’d still have something left with which to take the S.O. out for a nice dinner afterwards.

You didn't read my question clearly. Whatever you don't spend (on a bass), you must return. :) So some people were pretty wise about it by saying they'd purchase a specific bass that's in the 4k-5k range by adding a bit of their own money. Others have said they'd look for 3 used basses for roughly 1k a piece. Not a bad idea.

One of the new Squier Affinity J basses in Lake Placid Blue. Then trick it out with either Seymour Duncan Lightnin' Rods or Dimarzio Area Js, Hipshot clover tuners with an Xtender, a Gotoh 201B-4 and P bass knobs, all in chrome.
