I don't want to sell it, I traded away some of my gear to get it for my boyfriend coming back from afghanistan for our one year anniversary, but thanks for the helpful input!

I didn't know at all, just though this would be the place to find bass info. I'm more of a guitar guy so I stick to harmony central. If Online appraising is a no go, I would still love to know some history about it besides it looks like the one the guy in poison played!
I believe what Spade2you is saying, is that you must be a supporting memeber to post "what's it worth" threads.

Since your giving it as a gift value shouldn't matter, but the short answer is this. Somebody in an 80's style Pop or New Wave band would love to have it, anybody else would be greatly less interested unless they had a real affection for Jackson's(only if yours is real, piezo?) or 80's iconic art. How the bass actually sounds is important as well, if it's a crappy player it may be worth almost as much as novelty art to hang on the wall in a vintage record store, club or boutique....and that's not a joke, designers and business owners will pay good money for the right piece.
I'm just a gear whore, value is just the first things that always pops up in my head. I'm mostly interested that it's a bass from a San Dimas factory, which is rare on it's own, but the custom factory paint has me even more intrigued.
Hey. I can tell you a while ago I was looking at Charvel custom prices, and at that time went for between 3-4 Gs... But that was the most recent pricing at the time (2007), I would expect that your bass went for much less... I can't say how much less though b/c it's against rules. Sorry I can't be of more help. You can contact Charvel though...they would be the best people to help you. I believe they are currently owned by Fender:

+1, this is a funny piece in that to the right buyer it could be worth quite a bit, but that right buyer may be hard to find. Most people wouldn't pay anywhere near what it would be worth to that one particular buyer--it's like feast or famine.
In terms of "cool value", it's got loads of that. IOW it's a great gift, and truly an uncommon find.
1. THIS IS NEITHER A "SAN DIMAS" (that usually refers to Charvels that were made by Wayne Charvel and company in the VERY early 80's. Superb Instruments, and very heavily desired. This is not one) NOR 1982 JACKSON. Circa 1982, Grover Jackson was making parts for other companys, such as Ernie Ball and the such, and VERY high End One offs. Think of Randy Rhoads Flying V. The FIRST Jackson. 
1985+ or so is more accurate.
2. No, It is not ENTIRELY CUSTOM. It was a Jackson Concert USA bass, made by JACKSON, In the USA. There were lots of them with Peizo only pickups. Even Randy Jackson had one. You had to be a Jackson Dealer and order one of these basses, i believe.
3. It IS a custom finish. Now, while it does look nice from an internet picture, i cannot tell you if it is original, or was done in some smucks garage.

That's odd though. I would have assumed that the faceplate with all the san dimas markings would have meant it was a san dimas bass, guessing that is not always the case then?

#1 the bridge >>will tell where the parts came from
#2 the control cover >will tell what body it was made from
#3 the plate with some of the neck in the picture >>will tell where the neck/centerpiece was made before being assembled ( meaning if it was done in house or just inventory from japan )
is that serial plain 1346 or J1346?
either way It's not a 82 it's a 85-86.
as far as the ugly bizarre art painted on it, probably just some employee from yet another work order for the day for a dealer who wanted it.
and if you bought it and paid a grand off that other guy and you wanna sell it now and make a profit, your S.O.L . unless you find a buyer who is specifically looking for that design like the others are saying.
