My band now mixes folk, blues, alternative, rock, and a dash of quirk. And I'm an odd bassist, haven't really found my niche yet.

My old (and potentially future) band was a post-rock/punk/alt-metal style, in which case I would also need my Xotic Bass BB and MXR M80. But I'd have a lot of trouble parting with the first three..

Only 3? Well, my Pod X3 Live, my Line6 M9, and then it would be a major toss-up. It would be between a VT Bass Deluxe, a Markbass Super Synth, and an Aguilar TLC. I think I'd probably go with the compressor. The Line6 compressors aren't that great, and I don't *need* a synth or more dirt. The Line6 distortions aren't great on bass, but they're definitely usable in a band situation.

...now, if what you really mean is, "I only want to buy/have/use 3 pedals, what should they be?" & you want to describe what style(s) you normally play, then there might be some at least semi-sensible answers...

I'd probably keep my Whammy, RC-2, and Octron since they're worth the most. Then I'd sell the whammy and octron and buy something else.

I've used a variety of pedals over the years but these have been the only ones that are always in my gig bag:

#2 Tech 21 Bass SansAmp DI
#3 Boss Chorus pedal
