If you could....

wow here is thread I've never seen before..... this week at least

:p

Cool basses will always be made... and tastes will also change.

I'm set with my current pair of Benavente 51! The Fretless 6 instantly became my main bass... it is exactly everything I wanted in a bass. The fretted 5 fills in the other 10% of my bass needs.

My 32" scale Ibanez Destroyer (though unplayed) will stay the long haul as it was bought to replace the one I bought and sold in the 80s (my first real bass)

Boy has this one been done and 5,000 times, but boy have my tastes changed since.

Fbass BN5 in neon burst (ebony FB)
Rob Allen fretless (ash/maple/rosewood FB)
Fbass BN5 in trans blue maple FB (I already own)
Larivee acoustc 5

mmmm neon burst......

Maybe it's been done before, but a number like 4 basses is interesting. Allows for some variety but isn't like the 10 basses thread where we can pick anything cool that we fancy. =0)

So here's mine, most of which I already own:

- Fodera Yin/Yang 4, fretted. (got it)
- Modulus Quantum 6, fretted. (sold one, but have another on the way)
- Warwick Buzzard 4, fretless. (got it) - I had sold it but it came back to me!
- Fender Jaco sig fretless. (got it) - My favorite Fender, bar none, and I just got it recently.

Honorable Mention to a nice doubled-8. Dean Rhapsody maybe, but it'd be too hard to pick between the fretlesses to open up the slot.

The Jaco fretless makes me worry I wont play my Buzzard - seriously! The tone and playability are both incredible, I'm so surprised, I feel a little dirty enjoying a Fender so much. =0)

I seem to have only picked 3. #4 would be:

a matte finished, 5 stringed, Bulgarian, Fully Carved URB that Bob G imports

My four choices would be (in no particular order):
1. Lakland USA Bob Glaub w/ no jazz bridge pickup
[Invalid or Expired Link Removed]
2. Sadowsky Swamp Ash Jazz Vintage 4
[Invalid or Expired Link Removed]
3. Spector 5 String USA neck through with EMG P/J 5 String pickups
[Invalid or Expired Link Removed]
4.A Rickenbacker 4003
[Invalid or Expired Link Removed]
Nothing too expensive :bassist:

OK, this thread is just a little "twisted" IMO, since I had to anticipate to what I would need or want to experiment in the future. The thing is, this thread assumes you would NOT be allowed to change any of your basses then...

So let's go :

What would probably stay my main bass :
Sadowsky Vintage J (4 strings)

I love the general look and feel of this one too :
Sadowsky 24-fret (5 strings)
Link Removed

In case of some short scale experience, with the highest quality woods :
Alembic Series II Stanley Clarke
Link Removed

And in case I decide to get over the 5-string "limit", here's what I find to be the nicest 7er I ever seen (sorry JT !) :
Roscoe SKB3007
Link Removed

I have actually projects on the two Sadowsky's.
Nothing is planned for the two other ones, at least for the moment... In fact, I find Alembic to be extraordinary basses, but they haven't fit what I'm after yet.

Cheers,
JL

I own 3 of them today;
Alembic Series 1 with purpleheart body
Status S2000
Alembic SC Signature Deluxe,
well, OK, 4 if you count the Kubicki.

By around March, it should include my two forthcoming customs, and the last two will likely drop off the list.

Most definately a thread I've seen before but I never get tired of fantasizing, and I'm sure alot of you never get tired of showing off your babies :D .

1.) MTD 535 just like that :p

2.) Roscoe SKB3006
