If you had to make a mix disc...

I've got a disc similar to what you're suggesting, but it's purpose is more for exercise than showing off amazing bass playing. It starts off with Parallel Universe by RHCP and then goes in a million different directions, from Cake to the Doors to Bob Marley to Zep to Metallica..... I'll list the specific tracks when I get home later, I don't remember them all off the top of my head.

the requires some serious thought, but I'm at work, so how about this lot instead....

The Wedding Present - Gone
The Jam - In The City
New Model Army - No Rest
Om - At Giza
Sisters Of Mercy - Some Kind Of Stranger
Squarepusher - Go! Spastic

Capdown - Ska Wars
Stone Roses - Fools Gold
The Cure - A Forest
