Well the StingRay5 Special is just a tad over 8lbs , has that wonderful StingRay bounce to the notes that is smooth yet punchy.
The Sandberg has a certain clarity and sustain and has the active / passive options that make it a much more versatile player. Not that the Ray can’t cover different genres because it can. But it will always sound like a StingRay.
The Sandberg can get into P, J, and Ray territory. It weighs 9lbs. Still a good low weight for a 5.
I wouldn’t want to be without either one that’s for sure.

It's no secret that I'm a sucker for a Stingray 5. And it's been a while since I drooled GASsily over a bass (well, besides Stingrays) but, for some reason, I've been paying closer attention to Sandbergs recently. My retirement gift to myself was likely going to be a brand new Stingray, but right now I'm not as sure about that as I was not that long ago. Keep talking up your Sandberg.


If I only had one bass and it was a Precision, my second one would be a Stingray. I love the versatility of my SR5HH and the feel is just perfect for me. My Precision V is a nice bass but, if I didn't already have one, I'd want a SR5 of some kind to go with it.

I would sell the P and buy an Ibanez SR 4 string and SR 5 string. Then a fretless version of both. Which I now have.

I do own a pair of P-Basses. One fretted and one fretless. There’s no way I’d let either of them go.

I’d also have to keep these three.

Thanks for the replies so far! The P is a bit tongue-in-cheek because it's so ubiquitous. I included it because I'm curious how many P players would make #2 a J, while how many might pick something else like a modern active 5er, an EBMM, a Ric, a Spector, etc.

In that case, why not a Super P bass and a Super J?
No need for active electronics with these two...passive, pure and potent!

I do only own two basses and one is a precision. The other is a single pickup Peavey Forum that I bought new sometime in the mid to late nineties. I've been content with this pair for the last 7 or 8 years.

I haven't used a P bass in years so that one's out. When I did it would've been much more likely to be the single coil version.

As of today my two would be my Hofner Ignition Club and my Ibanez AFB200.
