is it worth searching for a BB2000.. compared to say a new BB 414 and a neck through BB2000.. how is the sound.. and how is the weight??

BP Mag says they weigh in at 9 lbs., 9 lbs. 3 oz. for the active version.

That really doesn't seem that bad, seeings as my Fender MIM Ash Jazz was a good 11 lbs. Only downside to me is 21 frets, but that's not so much a problem.

Does anyone have a picture of the BB415 or any model of the BB in that black pearl color? Wine red is classy, but the orange is too flashy for me.

The BB415 actually makes a fine 1st bass! I dumped an MIA Fender Jazz Bass Deluxe V in favor of the simpler BB415 and haven't looked back.

how does the orange look in real life?

I don't own a camera, but I'd say it looks pretty much just the same in real life as in Yamaha's own pictures. Of course when there's a lot of light on it, it sparkles quite nicely... it being metallic paint and all.

This bass really is so much better than my MIM Jazz in almost every aspect, and add to that that it's quite A LOT cheaper than that one was... it's insane. What great deals these things are!

EDIT: I should perhaps add that my MIM is a '97, and I hear that they have improved a lot since then... but I still doubt they can match the BB's, and they're still more expensive over here!

Nope, sorry. I honestly doubt it however, since it would make production more expensive to have to account for different thicknesses for "active" and "passive" necks. There's no real reason for it.

But the neck on the 414, or 415 for that matter, isn't that thick in the first place. A standard J neck is probably thinner, but a standard P neck is chunkier.

I have a 615 and I think it is an excellent second bass, or first bass for that matter. I have the Black Pearl and it is very attractive to me. The neck plays easy, the string spacing is a little on the wide side which I like, the pickups are relatively quiet unless you are right up against your amp with the bridge pickup solod or right next to an EMF source, the preamp is versatile and the tone is very good. I particularly like the P pickup; it is a little closer to the bridge than a traditional P pickup which gives it a bit more growl and definition without sacrificing the low end. I have played this bass for a few months and it has replaced my SR5 as my main five string.

I might get a used bb404 because of the 24 frets. Should I? (Yes, this question was answered in the first post, but I need more assurance!)

Also, for what it's worth, Googoo Dolls uses the bb414 on stage. They also used it in a recent video... so we can be sure that it looks good enough!

I've had a BB1600 for about 18 years. I admit it's in backup status now, but still...built like a tank and sounds great.

Don't think about upgrade. Think about sound and feel and yes, I like the BB615 very much because it sounds and feels so good to me. Best playing bass I have ever owned.

I am in the exact same situtation: own a RBX270 Mist Raspeberry, and nothing shall stop me from get the BB414 (Wine Red! )

As said, don´t think about "upgrades", think about better sounding and feeling (for wich you don´t need, necessarily, to pay a lot of money)

By the way, i am thinking about selling the (fretted) RBX and get a fretless one, nut... onyone know if it will be a defretted passive BB in a near future?

Yep, there's nothing wrong with the RBX, but it doesn't really sound like anything.
