Some of the greatest bass lines ever constructed were played on a yamaha bb. Check out the funky bass on Meat is Murder by the Smiths. the kind of musical bass lines V.Wooten couldn't play if you fed him ludes and lit a fire under his ass. ;)

OK, V.W. Is pretty damn good when he plays straight up jazz, but all that slapping and poppin' and tapping drives me crazy.

By the way, does anyone find that the Yamaha bridge pickup is particularly sensisitive to intererance from lights, monitors etc.

I recently bought a BB414 and I'm really happy with it, love that sound :)

Before my purchase, I was also interested by the Squier P-bass Special (PJ) but I haven't had the opportunity to try one.

Anybody has tested both models ? Are their sounds "comparable" ?

Heath -

I have no reason to believe that a BA bridge WON'T fit on a Yamaha BB but on the Fivers, the stock bridge is constructed in such a way that the B-String is strung about a half-inch longer than the other 4.

If you replace it with a BA, this will obviously no longer be an option.

why bring up victor wooten's name in a thread about yamaha basses?

yeah, yamaha basses rock!
andy rourke played precision basses, but i'll bring his name up anyways because i just read a bassplayer article about him (even though i was 10 when the smiths were together) and then say victor wooten sucks!

I own two Yamaha BBs, both are very good reliable basses that were definitely value for money especially considering I bought both second hand for incredible prices. Hell, my BB350 has a hairline crack on the headstock and yet still plays beautifully and does not go out of tune for the entire year through the four seasons.

hey all.. i'm also a yamaha BB fan, having recently aquired a BB1500a. It's now my main bass - i love it!

I absolutely love the tone i can get from this beast - it is hugely versatile with the 3 way user definable mid switch. I also really like the look of it. It's a red wine burst. Similar to a fender jazz shape but different enough to be unique. If i could just get a white pearloid pickguard.. that would look so pimp!
