Might as well make an ignorant comment thread

kind of like the show Myth Busters, but this is Ignorant Bass Busters

I'll start with this one-

gibson (and even moreso epiphone) are reputed among the bass community as poor attempts at turning guitars into Basses. They use mahogany bodies. Mahogany sounds great on guitars, but mahogany bass+ humbuckers= mud mud mud.

Someone never heard a Tbird, Les Paul bass, Wal, G&L, Lakland Decade or Alembic

I've been guilty of this myself:

(insert type of strings here) should not be used for (insert type of music here) because it will not produce the tone desired for that type of music. It just sounds wrong.

It can be type of wood, type of PU, style of playing, type of amp, etc. etc. etc.

Unless of course you make it work for you, then it doesn't matter.

this is a real comment someone said to me. "I've heard five string basses are for guys who can't cut it on a four string".

Oh yeah, extra strings make it so much easier

or

Bass players should only play with their fingers and never a pick
