Jaco needed professional help.
If he got it, he’d be a TB member.
Another sad story.

My friend who is quite active on this board put me up to this, didn't think any one would respond to it.
-Listen... Fellow bassists.... Running the whole music show in a band is a lot of responsibility. Because everyone else does as we say without thinking, we must refrain from sending other band members on fool's errands. They are foolish enough as is. Have pity my friends.

Had Jaco lived long enough to see the ERB emerge from obscurity, he may have picked up a five or six string and let everyone know that, while he may have only needed four, he could make great use of those extra strings. I believe he would've shown us all a thing or two beyond what is speculated that he "needed".

Well the first commercial 5 string basses went on the market in 1984 (Yamaha BB I have read here).
Even before that in the beginning of the 80's there were a few 5 and 6 string custom basses around. Jaco died in 1987. So he must have tried 5 or 6 string basses. Guess he didn't like it enough to do concerts or recordings with it. Maybe it just wasn't his thing.
