Im coming to Nashville!

I fly with basses all the time and they usually go in the overhead compartment. If I get to the airport late and I'm the last to board (which happens more than I'd like to admit) they just gate check it. I use an iGIG bag so even if it's gate-checked it will be fine. As long as you get to the gate early and don't ask anybody, you should be able to walk right on the plane with the bass on your back. What airline are you flying?

Southwest, here is what the website says, taken directly from it:

If your musical instrument does not meet the sizing requirements for carryon items (10”x16”x24”), it will be handled as checked baggage provided you do not wish to purchase a seat for the instrument.

In the event you are traveling with a musical instrument that is larger than our sizing requirements for carryon luggage and is fragile in nature, you may purchase a seat for the instrument and carry it in the cabin under the following conditions:
The instrument must fit in the seat without blocking aircraft signage and be secured with a seatbelt.
The instrument must be placed in the first row and in a seat closer to the window than any other Customer in that row.
Reservations must be made and a ticket must be purchased at a charge no greater than the Child’s Fare. Musical instruments cannot be transported in place of a free companion under any fare promotion.

Instruments that are transported in a soft-sided case or other packaging that is not strong enough to protect the instrument under normal baggage handling conditions will be conditionally accepted, which means that Southwest assumes no liability for any damage sustained to the item during transport.

Southwest has a good reputation with musicians. I've learned to ignore the "rules" they post on their websites. If you walk onto the plane with the bass in a gig bag on your back, you should be fine. All the major jets will fit a bass easily in an overhead. What size plane are you taking?

Full size, 747, AFAIK.

Im not worried about size, Im worried about a snapped neck or something when it comes off the plane in a hardshell. Thats the last thing I need with my first gig on the 2nd. :D

Im just going to go balls to the wall and go the gig bag route.

Long story short, my brother is playing on my Xbox as we got a brand new 42'' LCD for the living room... and my parents kicked him out. :D

So, Ill sneak on whenever he falls into a coma from a withdraw.. ;)

Anyone more Nashville cats out there?

Nah but security is going to be hell to get through, with millions of insane inspection.

And relax, it only hurts until you die. In which you won't remember it. And if it's an explosion very close, it'll be very quick, maybe painless.

MTSU grad here...I can tell you that I wouldnt trade my time at MTSU for anything. Belmont is probably a good school too, but for the money, MTSU is just as good, and just as prestigious as far as music goes....why spend the extra money??
