I'm getting a thunderfunk!

Yes - I'm completely GAS free in the amp department. The TFunk kicks so hard and sounds so freakin good, I have no desire to go after anything else. Ran mine hard for four sets outside yesterday with a loud rock\blues band and it sounded just unbelievable. You really get into it when you're in the pocket with a really great tone. Couldn't ask for more...

Joe, congrats! We're talking cream of the crop gear now. I've been doing the T-Funk 'n 'Groove thing for some time now. I also use a Tri-112 and 115 (separate rigs). I dig the Delano pickups, too. I had Michael Dolan install a pair in one of my basses (Kinal MK-21) a couple of months ago. I don't have anything not to like about my 'Funks. Phase coherency is where they really shine compared to other makes. If you are interested, Dave explains this phenomenon better than I could. I will be very surprised if you don't like your new 'Funk. Enjoy!

Congratulations. Thunderfunk is a fine amp to cure your gas. I love mine. A very clean amp with some avenues for grit if that is what you want. To me the amp sounds best live with minimal eq. When I first got mine I eq'd it the way I liked it as a stand alone. Just me and the Bass and amp. But live it did not seem to cut as well as it does when set flat or close to it. But again thats me and what do I know. But it is exciting getting new gear and you will be happy with this one.

I agree - from time to time, I've tried EQing, but always in the end liked the amp run flat batter...

I have the gold chip and can't tell much of a difference. Dave installed it for me while I was having some repair work done to my amp. His customer service is outstanding, he truly wants his amps to work properly and his customers to be happy. The T-Funk has left me GAS free (for amps!!)

Just did 2 gigs this weekend (with Jake Simpson and got to meet fellow TB'er RSalvador) with the new chip installed. Just popped it in myself, and it was pretty straight-forward. It's not a huge diff, but it's noticeable. A bit tighter and smoother; worth the money/hassle to me, but it's not an essential upgrade. The original sounds great as well...good stuff Dave!

The show was fantastic and your bass cut through the mix beautifully. The Thunderfunk/Eden rig sounded great, I wasn't out in front of the mains and the bass sound was still pretty defined for being outside and having all that concrete and buildings to bounce off of. I hope to catch a show after you get your Accugroove. About a two hour set with no break, what troopers.

Thanks dude. I always enjoy working with Jake. He's got such a great voice and is so easy to work with...always fun! We may have a few more dates down at the Landing at Bar Louie (he's here for one more month) and I also will be playing Piztro's on friday nights starting in a week or so, so the Accugroove/TFunk combo will be thumping soon!

I'm currently running an M-Pulse 600 through an Whappo Jr. I find that I run out of clean headroom quickly due to the fact that I can't turn the pre-amp much past 5 without getting some tube distortion. Mesa even states in the Manual that cleanliness is in the 1-5 range. I'm thinking of replacing it with a new Thunderfunk 550. I'm hearing great things about this amp, but am a little apprehensive about going down in wattage rather than up. My thoughts are that with a well designed solid state head, I'd be able to drive the preamp harder and get more clean volume out of the Jr.

Having owned an MPulse600 and currently owning a TF, I'm not quite sure about the above. The MPulse if very tubey, but I always achieved a very clean tone from that amp... closer to the Aguilar 680 pre than, for example, an SVT or the Big Block750.

So, with the input gain set so that you get a clean sound, are you saying that even when turning the master up to a high level, you aren't getting enough volume? That doesn't seem like it should be happening.

I prefer the TF to the MPulse primarily due to the nature of the low end, with the TF being very tight and punchy, and the MPulse being very wide, bloomy and tubey. However, the MPulse put out massive volume (IME more than the TF) and still stayed very clean.

+1 to all of the above. I've used an M-Pulse 600 previously and I now have a TF550B.

+2. I've got both of those heads right now, and prefer the mesa ... but they are both top quality heads. Its just a pure tone preference thing. For tight and dry go T-funk, for plush and juicy go Mesa.

Volume seems about the same, though I don't think I've maxxed out either one to know for sure. They are both very loud heads.
