I'm looking for a tapewound for this Kramer

Hey all,

I'm looking for a tapewound bass string that will be similar in tension to the average bronze phosphor string for an AEB. I'm hoping to be able to go pick up a set at GC or Sam Ash today so I can have the bass ready for a gig tomorrow. With that being said, I'm not looking to get some boutique strings.

Please give me your thoughts.

First, what's the winding length (ball end to taper/silk) does this bass need?

Most tapewounds are lower in tension and more flexible than the standard acoustic bronze strings as the outer nylon cover contributes very little in terms of both tension and stiffness.

These are 34" long scale.

and multiply every total tension value by 1.12890625 (because AFAIK your Kramer Ferrington is 34" scale, not 32") - except for the Rotosounds, whose long-scale and medium-scale sets have differences in gauge. The long-scale version of the Rotos (RS88LD) has 177.15 pounds total at 34".

Oh, and the word "asterisks" should be emended to "hashtags"!

GC and Sam Ash barely carry regular wound bass strings. Even if you ID a set that will fit, I seriously doubt your local shop will carry them. If you're lucky one of those retailers might have the D'addario tapewound set.

Most tapewounds are much larger in diameter than the same-tension roundwounds because they're fully constructed roundwounds with nylon tape wound on top of that.

By the very definition of what you're looking for -- already-uncommon tapes that fit your specific bass and are the same tension as a typical roundwound string set -- you're looking for boutique strings.

Careful to not run out and gig the same day you install tapes. I find my D'addario tapewounds take about a week to stretch out and be able to hold in tune for more than 15 minutes.

I use the LaBella Whites tapes. FYI white is clear but they’re dumb so they call it white. Just so you don’t expect them to actually be white.
They feel good and sound good.
I hate bronze ABG strings with a fiery passion. I have always played normal bass strings on both my ABGs. Including the most awesome Kramer Ferrington.
