I'm making a leather pick

Hi everyone This is my first real post and I'm happy this forum exists It's already helped me countless times. Whenever I ask a question Talkbass usually comes up, finally occured to join.

Antway our band is doing Rebel Yell by Billy Idol. At 168 BPM it's the fastest I've ever had to play. I use 2 fingers or my first finger and thumb, depends on the song. I'm having trouble keeping up at the moment. Someone suggested a leather pick so this morning I cut an inch or 2 off of my belt. It's at least 10 years old still holding up well.

I'm anxious to get home tonight and try it out.

Anyone ever use a leather pick ? What was your experience. Thanks for reading !!!

Bought a few of these from a local guitar show.

Kinda like it, but then I hate it!

Im always experimenting with picks, being a finger player from day one, I always dabble and try to use a plectrum.

I like the flexibility, and the thumpy sound you get.

But I still like my calloused fingers.

I have made a few leather picks. They do have a sound similar to thumb. I also like felt ukulele picks for a thumper pick sound. They also make rubber picks that work well. The felt and rubber come in different thickness and rigidities. I used 10oz cow hide for my leather pick. It's finished on one side and flesh on the other. The finished side is a little brighter and the flesh side sounds just like thumb. Makes for some interesting possibilities.
