Im Stuck!

Im stuck on what bass to get next! Right now I already have a modded jazz and I love it. Im just stuck on what to get next. My 'rents have told me they are getting me either a Modulus Flea Bass or a Stingray for my birthday (in December) so those are out of the question. This is what Im thinking:

P-Bass
Jazz Bass (I want to put Dark Stars on it)
Danelectro '63 Long Scale

My budget is around $500. Im looking at getting used stuff. A MIA Jazz or P I've found for around $600 on Ebay and CL so that's my upper limit.

What do y'all suggest?!?!?

I would say go with the p bass,you already got a jazz,can't go wrong.

I think p-bass from the classified here on Talkbass would be a good investment looking at your potential line-up.

Get a passive P-bass and string it up with flats. It'll be a nice traditional counterpoint to the modern Modulus.

P-bass sounds like a good choice. New Fender MIM P-basses are down to $549. They also have ones with maple fretboards now. Good luck in your search.

How are the MIMs today? I know they are better than they used to be, but on a scale of 1-10 (11 being MIA)?

I would say 8 or 9. They're definately great instruments for the money, I've got a 5 string jazz deluxe and I love it. Obviously it wont be AS good as an MIA but definitely to me,not a waste of money.

Are you talking puna butter from the 80's? Quite possibly the greatest of all time?

on topic: I'd say they rate a 7. I would find an MIJ P bass
and go from there. 500 sounds do-able.

Last time I saw a price on Darkstar Pickups(2 weeks ago) they were 400.00 a pair not 600. But still pricey.

I can, play, dude. Im in the Jazz band at my Uni. My next question is, though, what do y'all hear about the Korean made P-Basses from the 90's.

That is assuming that you are playing through a nice amp/cab. If you aren't then that is where my money would go.

Im already in the process of getting an Ampeg SVT-CL and either the 810e or the new Orange 810.
