i'm wondering if anyone has experience with this....

Your welcome and it is too bad. I don't really understand the rant in post #18, but I support buying anything you like, no matter where you get it from. I personally have not had 1 positive experience in buying direct from China, but I am not going to stop anyone from their chance. I mean, really. I don't have any control over anyone other than myself. I hated both deals I had with China and won't do it again. However, if one of those really sweet double necks came around, I might jump again...

Sorry to hear of your bad experiences with buying from China iriegnome. Maybe the the whole thing has improved due to a lot of the bad press and postings these sellers are getting. Judging by the low margins these sellers must be working with, I don't think they could survive very long if they try to rip people off over a long time.

the original poster asked;

[any help would be much appreciated.]

as far as I can see in this thread rick4001s has been helpful and described (in some detail) his experiences with the guitars he has bought..

to say things like;

[you sound like someone riding along with the scam to suck yet another person into it]

imo is pretty unfair on a guy who is just trying to be helpful, apology reqd IMO

Hello
Just thought I would add a couple more. Incidentally they botched the dimensions of the green burst one. This was upsetting! Be warned and be cautious, the sellers can do poor work even to returning faithful customers! The greenburst bass has the best tone actually.

Hello Arnie
Seems the scale length was the same. Intonation is OK. This unit plays and sounds different to the other fakers. No binding on the neck and full width triangular markers. The dimensions of the body, pick-guard, cavity routing location and headstock all differ from the other fakers I bought. It seems that they made the green burst one from scratch, from memory without a template.

Hello Splods. I would be happy to post a photo of my collection of Chinese guitars (about 20 or so) sometime in the near future. About the Rockinbetters compared to the Chinese 'Ric branded' basses.

1. Rockinbetters are made of maple and have a thru neck, chickenbackers do not (set neck with spliced neck joint).
2. The bridge, treble pickup assembly and machines are identical.
3. Neck pickup of the Rockinbetter is different to the cheap one on the chickenbacker.
4. Treble pickup on both seems to be the same. The Rockinbetter basses bridge pickup is mounted in approx the same place as a real Ric. The chickenbacker is mounted closer to the bridge.
5. Wiring, you guessed it, Rockinbetter is superior.

Out of the 7 chickenbackers I currently own (one is the purple double neck), three sound better than my 1978 Jetglo which I sold recently. No BS!
They needed a lot of work to play as well as the Jetglo though and sadly, they still don't play as well.

The old story about these chinese guitars are true. They need to be setup correctly (full fret dress and truss rod adjustment). You have to spend some extra money on fixing the wiring and sometimes replacing the pickups (pickup quality control is woeful).

Hope to post soon and get more controversy going in 2014.

Cheers,
rick4001s

The rockibetter/ rebelrocker basses all use the same hardware and pickups. I wonder if they come out of the same Factory.

Rcik4001s: Maybe you should post a photo of the whole collection?

this one was bought through AliExpress and I am very happy with it. Of course it needed some setup but there were no major issues.
price 300$
If you want to buy something I advise you to use AliExpress and avoid DHGate and TradeTang - especially avoid any seller called hewenping or something similar as I had bad experience with them

I have a feeling you would give john hall a stroke if he saw that!

I don't want to give Mr.Hall a stroke Splods.
Imagine how much it would cost replacing these fakers with the real thing at Australian prices. Ricks are not 9-10 times better than Chickenbackers, but Ricks do hold their value well - clearly a much better investment. So it may depend on whether you are a player or investor ;-)

They are making fake Alembic's now too! Just got one the other day. Bridge replacement and full pups and electronic replacement await.
