Image rip guru's ...

Can't you just do a screenshot (Print Screen) and then paste it into MS Paint?

Bingo.

Du-uh :p

Nope tried that (on a PC anyway), the image shows only as long as you have the DVD open. I even tried to screen grab, paste into paint, save in paint. Open in GIMP, edit, save, re-open, etc. It all looks good until you close the DVD movie and then the image blanks out. Im assuming this has to do with DCMA rights crap and what not.

i dont know if u can do this with this software, but its great and free anyways!

its called "The GIMP" or "GIMP" one of em...its really good for a free program.

its worth a shot.

More than familiar with GNU applications :) I used to give lessons and instructions on installing and running Linux and BSD (Free/Open/Net) for both home users and enterprise users. This was back around 99/00.

In general, screen grabs for DVD videos on Windows won't work because DVD players use hardware accelleration and overlays to display the video. This results in better performance and better fine-tuning of the video overlay display settings but causes screen grabs to come up with a dark purple rectangle where the image should be.

All DVD playing software that I've tried has still frame grab features built-in though.

Another option is to disable video card overlays for DVD playback. Then screen grabs will work.

Wow. That's like magic.

I've never experienced anything like that.
