Image secret reveal

Then I wouldn't take the gig. The guys are obviously douchebags who I wouldn't want to play with anyway. I probably have a different perspective being in my mid 40's and gigging all I want. If I was 20 and dying to play, my answer may be different. I'd still think they were douchebags though.

as i said in an earlier post most people on here have probably played far more gigs than me so i'd be more likely to bend to the demands..

and yes it is douchebaggish but u have to accept the fact that image is important in some music.. and just because image may be important does not mean the music sucks..

you never know by not taking a gig because of that particular image you may miss one of the greatest experiences of your life.. or they could die in a traggic zombie shark at sea world incident and you saved yourself by not stooping to that level of douchery.

every adventure begins with the first step but its up to you to take it.

look at me being all quasi deep

wearing that douchebagery and losing your manliness and dignity for a touring band?
that is weak. would you dye your skin a different colour because a gig required a player of a different race?

not cool. not cool at all. I'd laugh at that guy. then probably beat him up.

I get hot enough in a t-shirt and shorts, let alone with my leather jacket on. I'd rather be playing that sweating. Seen people doing it before too, they do tend to fall into douche category :p
AHEM!

I actually think it would be somewhat amusing to get the fake sleeves...and then stay outside and tan through them, so that when you take them off you have a negative of the pattern tanned onto your arms.

I am a pale Irish guy who works indoors most of the year. So the two weeks I'm about to spend out in the sun will leave a visible difference for a few months. Having some odd pattern tanned in would be hilarious.

But wearing the sleeves for non-ironic purposes? No. Just no.

You kind of took both sides...and...would want to beat him up??????

:hiding:

I took both sides? I didn't mean for it to come across that way.

Let me re-word this: Sacrificing your dignity/identity/personal beliefs is not worth it for a gig. Trust me, I've been there. The guy would be a total poser and it would be very easy to see.

I'd laugh at the guy. But I wouldn't beat him up. Most girls are tougher than me :o

except you are not in control of the situation. you are presented with two choices

1) wear fake ink and get a paying gig (actually op said tour, so multiple playing gigs)

2) dont wear fake ink, dont get the gig(s)

there may be other gigs out there but you are at this audition because you want this gig (unless your just a gluten for punishment or something)

you have to get the massage to get the happy ending

Why is this any different than a band that wants you to grow or cut your hair or wears makup a la (Mudvayne, Slipknot, Kiss, Insane Clown Posse, twisted sister etc) or a band that wears costumes to look like modern day rock vampires....??? Again it is SHOW BUSINESS and that is how he makes his living...studio and touring.

I think the point of most of us here that detest the idea of fake tattoos is that it is impossible to take any band seriously who is that concerned with their image. It's one thing if it comes naturally (myself and two of the other three guys in my band have real, honest to goodness, visible tattoos that actually have real meaning) but if it is forced (as in "you can't get the gig unless you look like this") then the band looses all credibility, in my opinion.

Also, I think that many people who love music for the artistic aspect of it, rather that simply the entertainment value, bristle at the mention of "show business." Personally, it makes me sick to see how commercial and contrived music has become in America.

And here's me thinking we were a dying breed... But we'll always be in the minority, even in the metal and punk scenes these days. Shame.
