I have been wanting one of these for a few years. Wife told me about a year ago I could if I wanted. It is my fourth Mazda. Giving my CX5 to my middle kid.

Sports car guy here. Not impracticable at all if you are one who enjoys driving a performance car that hugs the road and has a lot better acceleration than an economy box type car. Just sayin.
Has zero space. My 12” cab just does not fit in the trunk. Other than that I don’t haul anything and rarely have a passenger. No kids at home anymore so don’t have to deal with thatImpractical why, though?

Only had it a few days, but really enjoying it. I got the CX5 because my granddaughter was living with us and I needed a car seat friendly vehicle. If she would not have not been the case I would have made this purchase three years ago.
Mazda has the best candy apple red finish in the car business.
Yeah I agree. I hadn't had a paint job catch my eye on a while, then I started seeing the pearlescent red on some Mazdas. Super lustrous and eye catching.

I'd like to have one of those and a matching Miata - one for nice cool weather and one for nice hot weather. But, living in the middle of DFW, inching around in city traffic with the temp at 100, a small sports or GT car loses its appeal, and the other main driving I do is high speed all day on the Interstate, and again that's not really the environment for a small sports or GT. If I were living in western Mass, with all the nice curvy country roads, THAT would be the place for those little toy cars.
And being a Mazda you can probably expect it to be as reliable as a stone axe.

Ok got one, my Kia SX T-GDI
which has turbo. I added race chip out of the gate I was at 274hp 365ft tq with the chip it is around 340hp with 460ft tq
it doesn't do well in the rain and it never leaves the driveway when it snows.
But, it is fun to drive on a nice sunny day

These are quoted to prove there is no such thing as a "Mid Life Crises" when someone over 50 is driving a two seater.
They finally do not have kids to tow or pay for so they have the personal and financial freedom to finally do what they would have at 30.
Trade the van for a sports car.
Let them have their fun.

That's going to be me someday. I've always wanted a Corvette, but for many reasons it hasn't happened yet. I'm hoping by my 60th I'll have one. I'd look into getting one now, but winters in Wisconsin aren't good for them. I'll have to wait until it's a little more practical for us to have 3 cars.
Since we don’t have kids, my wife and I are in permanent midlife crisis mode with cars. She’s currently driving a BMW 240i coupe, but her previous car was a Nissan 370z two seater.

The Miata has always been "MX-5". It used to come only in drop-head coupe form (also called "roadster" but in truth a true roadster doesn't have a top at all, whereas the Miata has a very nice soft top that raises and lowers easily).
The last generation, they added a configuration "RF" which has a fixed roof which is largely taken up by a very large targa top that, if I understand correctly, retracts into the rear trunk. But from what I can tell, the MX-5 "roadster" (they don't call it a "drop-head coupe") and the MX-5 RF, which is what I would call a small GT, are the same car under the skin.
