In-Ear Systems - Best Bang for the Buck?

The band is looking at going all in ear. We don't want to buy a shared system since of the typical revolving door of members, etc (+ 2 members already own in-ear systems).

So I'm looking for a reasonably priced system for myself. I know the big names (Shure, etc) and don't want to go with some of the "junk" makers (Nady, etc), but I've seen some other new names on the market recently and they seem to offer good specs for the price point and want to see what you guys think of them.

I'm sure there are others out there. I know the buds are also improtant. Do you really have to spend $600 - $1000 for a good system and ear buds? Seems a bit crazy to me, but you all tell me. I've never done the in-ear thing before...

I use the Senn.. stuff a lot and really like. I've also used the shure a bunch. They are both very good.

If you are looking for something a little cheaper, I'd look into the Freedom Back from Hear Technologies. I think you can pick up a new systems for under $500.
Airwave makes a system almost identical, but not as good, IMO.

Ouch, these new ear buds didn't evern make it through sound check. They were terrible. I toughed out 2 sets hopeng I could make them work. No volume and no mid range. I think the ohmage of these is higher thatn the Senn as I couldn't get them loud.

The seemed to have built in protection as well as they were phasing in and out all the time yet my sig from the FOH was not.

LAst 2 sets I usd the Senn's again and from the first not wow what a difference.

Any chance you could go hard-wired instead of wireless? I tried all sorts of wireless sets, they all kinda sucked to varying degrees, and all were totally useless for monitoring bass. I ended up making a custom guitar cable (I hate the sound of going wireless with my bass) with a headphone extension cable built right into it, ( I rewired a fancy 5-wire studio mic cable) powered by a real nice headphone amp (Rane, I think) it works wonderfully. By the way, I'm using FutureSonics M5's (~$175), they work great for hearing your bass without sounding boomy.
Another key to the whole think working is to make sure you are getting a good seal from your in-ears. If you don't get the seal, you don't get the bass.

I use HW on rare occasions but it requires a different setup and takes longer and i hate having a cable dragging behind me.

I use a very good wireless on my bass and don't exp. and tone loss and acutally when I use the Senn CX300's the bass is fine as well.

The seller has offered to take back or to upgrade to westone UM2's so I said let's try those.

I'll grant that maybe the seal was off but I really felt I had them in well. earlier I had tried all the different attachments to find the right seal for my head.

I will report back.
