In Ears/ Live Sound

Hey All- well I broke down and am getting myself set up with IEM's. I'm getting used to it but I was wondering how others felt about the concept of not using a stage rig.......just a nice DI? If I'm not mistaken Jimmy AKA Flim Johnson uses something like that. Any thoughts?

If you always have ample FOH rigs and all the other musicians you work w/ are also on IEMS, that can work.

Personally I see the use of a stage rig (or not) as a separate issue from IEM. IMO a stage rig is mainly needed in situations where the house sound system doesn’t have any subs, but not needed where there are subs. IEM’s could be used in either situation.

Done that for years at church.. using a variety of DI's. NO STAGE AMPS...
The most common DI was the Sansamp Bass Driver, tho' I recently started bringing my Ampeg SCRDI.
FOH techs really like the tone.
For secular stuff, my band is 90% IEM's.. guitar player still uses a wedge, so I bring my bass rig for his stage monitoring.
Other than that.... been using IEM's for about 6 yrs now.
Takes a little getting used to, but with the right system and buds.. <shrug>
I LOVE being able to walk into a gig with nothing but my bass case..
