The most interesting thing is the position of the split coil pickup in relation to the bridge which is more similar to that of a Music Man pickup in a Stingray rather than to that of a P bass pickup in a P bass ... it happened to me yesterday to listen to some songs from Chic's 1st album where Bernard Edwards was still playing a BC Rich Eagle bass and I compared the bass tone to the one he sported in subsequent Chic's albums when he started using the Stingray ... I prefer the Stingray as the tone is more defined in the upper register... don't know whether this is due to the instrument preamp or to the particular position of its pickup ... however I was wondering how the Stingray would have sounded with a P bass pickup in the same position as the one of its pickup ... the OP bass may reply to the question!

From what I hear with the pick up position toward the bridge is a more pronounced mid bump. Not your typical p bass tone at all. I have 2 p basses. You still get that decent pbass low but as previously stated definitely a more mid presence.

One of Leo's first MM prototypes had a P type pickup in the MM position. A P in that position has a lovely (to me) mid forward bark. It takes no prisoners when played with a pick.

I was given a Curlee made under license by Hondo II. I always thought Curlees were very cool, so I accepted it graciously. Where the neck section runs thru the body it warped very badly, and a good tech told me she was a goner.
If I ever find a USA version, I still think they are cool!

I owned one of these about 15 years ago. Just a killer bass. And that 32" scale was easy on the hands.

They are fun to play. So far neck is stable.
