In mourning...

My lifelong friend, brother, and bandmate Bobby Neal died suddenly yesterday after a brief illness. He was 55.

He took ill after rehearsing with us on Sunday. By Tuesday he was unresponsive. He was in ICU until Saturday, when it was apparent that the physicians' efforts were not reversing his condition. I was with him and his wife Saturday morning when she made the difficult decision to stop treatment and put him on comfort measures only, and later that afternoon when he peacefully left us, surrounded by family and friends.

Treasure your friends, especially those you get to share this gift of music with.

I've lost more than a few people in my life. There is always that sudden sense of grief, loss, and questions . . . . that inescapable, burning permanence that we will see our friend or loved one no more on this world.

I can only tell you the three things that became obvious to me after too many funerals ( . . . to which I will attend no more: I will only go to ONE more, mine . . . ).

IF it was up to me, they'd still be here; unfortunately, it wasn't up to me.

They would have us go on, live our lives, carry on, this is what they would insist that we do in their memory.

And we have to trust, in faith, that these things happen for a reason, a plan being followed, a plot line playing out to which we will never read the script, but we have to live in faith that this is truly the case.

My Best to You and Yours, and all affected by this man's passing.
