In need of the perfect strings

I am in look for some new strings for my Fender Squier Jaguar P/J Bass. Now its very difficult for me to understadn the difference between a tapewound and roundwound and i know i do not need a flatwound string (used on my fretless jazz). The tone i am looking for is a nice warm and bright tone. Much like bands like Arctic Monkeys, muse, and The strokes use.

I am currently using the standard stock strings it came with but i feel like its time for a better change because they do not exactly give me the right tone being either too bright or too smooth and deep sounding. I cannot get a middle warm/bright tone together with using picks or fingers.

As well please mention the gauge i should get for this 34"in scale neck.

It sounds like you want rounds and to roll your tone off just a bit. Circle K Balanced 106 or DR Lo-Riders would be my recommendation.

Nickel rounds are your friend. Buy a set of DR nickel Lo-Riders, or DR Sunbeams, and let them break in. They'll be nice and warm.

My favorite "warm" strings are the old package Fender 7250. Fender also make the pure nickel 7150, which will be warmer than stainless strings.

Try some Dunlop Nickels 45-105. I think you'll like them.
BTW: the original strings supplied with most instruments (not just basses) are crappy shipping strings. The first thing to do with any new stringed instrument is change the strings for decent ones.

Tapewounds are roundwounds with tape wound around the strings.

Just get a set of GHS Bass Boomers and be done with it...they will do all that and more. Best all purpose string for the money. Like 27 dollars shipped to your door.

Bright with presence and a boatload of tone. Slapped or with a pick they are phenomenal. They have that punchy mid-range sound you dream about while still maintaining pure bass. Roll the treble off and they play jazz just as good...

I wouldn't put anything else on my Jazz bass. Get the long scale mediums...
