In praise of MEDIUM-PRICED basses

Anyway, just so this isn't a troll thread, most of my basses are medium priced. I like them.

To me, medium priced is anything that I paid more than $150 for. So far, only two basses I own have cost that much or more.

Nah......I would say $500 to $750 is where you score great deals for top basses. Actually you can have more medium priced basses with the same investment. I like stacking the cases in different ways around the man cave.

I think I have a couple that fit- the Ric and P-Bass. The EB-2 cost me eight cents, but I have spent more on it to buy bits and pieces that would let me convert it back to stock from how it was when I got it (and how it still is). It might be up to mid-priced by now, but I'm not sure. The fretless 'Bird may qualifiy, not for what I paid for it, but for the amount I have lavished on it to defret it and rewire it with Alumatone Bass Bar pickups, but just barely. Then there's the Japanese oddity, which is a neck dive and sweet tone monster. It qualifies as genuinely cheap. It would be firewood if it didn't sound so good. Maybe I'll spend a whole lot of money figuring out how to make it balance. Then it can be mid-priced, and the world will be a perfect place.

Sometimes you get what you pay for, it's just payment in installments. That's how I take a cheapo and turn it into a mid priced bass. I might make one into an expensive bass someday. Hmmmm... a fretless 'Bird with LED markers on the side of the neck. I'm sensing some potential here...

A relevant question was asked...what price range constitutes a medium priced bass? To someone with a $100 bass, the medium priced bass bar is set a lot lower than someone with a $20,000 bass. Like the $100 bass owner would consider maybe $500 as medium, while the $20,000 bass owner considers $10,000 a medium price.

So youse can just dogfight over it because I'm not defining a price range.

That's exactly right. But I'll say this...anyone who starts telling people they should sell their basses and donate the money to charity will face the brutality of the most insulting memes I can find.
