In praise of the humble Squier Affinity

I got a 2007 Squier Affinity P the other day and I've been dorkin' around with it and took it to a practice and I've gotta say, for a hundred bucks it's a heckuva bass (even came with a little practice amp). Everything seems tight and stable, it stays in tune like a champ, and the neck is just fantastic! I know it's new to me, so that has a lot to do with the infatuation, but dangit if this little guy didn't just exceed my expectations. Beginner bass, my foot!

Plus, it encouraged me to finally install some wall hangers, which my wife LOVES.

sorry, no picture because I don't own it anymore, but I do want to join in the praises.
My first bass was an Affinity P bass. I learned to play on it, and with it I got into 2 bands and it did many gigs.

Right now I'm having a custom bass build in the same color scheme as that Squier Affinity I used to had. Red, white pickguard and maple fingerboard.
I'm really looking forward to that. :)

Stock - even with the same original strap and PG. You can see the Fender BP-15 amp right behind it's head that came with it in one of those Bass-Packs.

I've just started to hang some of my gear - running out of floor space and the bed would have to go next.

Here's my 2009 Squiah, a bit muddy picture though:

Has a Seymour Duncan SPB-3 in it and currently using Dean Markley Blue Steels strings. Seems I've found my new favourite string with these ones... had them on for like 2 months soon and still sound rather bright. And feeling rather smooth by now. :hyper:

Will see what I do with this bass, might respray it in the future as the finish is starting to look pretty dinged up, and not in a good way. Might even possibly throw on a new (MIM Fender?) neck with a maple fretboard, but these are just my wild ideas. The bass plays nice however, so no rush to do anything to it. It's a pretty decent beginner's bass overall... :p

I like my Squier, it's not a bad bass. My teacher raved about it when he tried it out. I'm more comfy with the wick tho. But Thumper's named came about when I first played, nice thumpy sound from it so I named it that. hehe

My one problem...Can't find another pickguard so I can play it again LOL....I don't wanna play through my autographs from Tarot.

I have an Affinity P-Bass that I upgraded with a new MIM pickguard. I didn't have any problem covering up the routing, as was suggested in the previous post. However, the bottom horn of the MIM pickguard was not long enough to cover one of the screw holes left by the Affinity pickguard.

To Buslady7803: I still have the white pickguard that I took off my Affinity P-bass. It is definitely used, with some scratches, but you can have it if you want (just send me some $ for shipping). PM me if you want it.

There are just two 'listed' manufacturers of the P-Affinities from Fender, and my bass is neither of them.

Affinity P Bass® models come from 2 different sources:
  • Affinity Series-Reliant and the serial numbers begin with “CY”
  • “Start Playing” Special-Cort and their serial numbers begin with “IC”

Mine has a serial number that starts with 'CD'. It has always been a mystery to me who made it and where. The PG difference in mine is rather unique in the Affinity P line, and if anyone has any other information - other than what the official Fender Squier site says, I'd be grateful.

Well, if Wiki is to be believed - it appears your P-bass was manufactured at least in China. What factory or location the "D" represents, I couldn't say. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Squier
