I'm inclined to agree, my old conklin 9 was very proportional, and that body was wider than the kitchen table. It felt worse because I'm a bit on the short side.


p.s- that is one of the coolest boutique jazz interpretations I've seen lately. Brubaker is a master when it comes to wild finishes.

IMO, the body doesn't need to be oversized on the higher string count basses, it just needs to balance properly. Based on my limited experience with Brubaker stuff, I'm positive that proper balance is not an issue .... ;)

Nice stuff, for sure ..... who's the lucky recipient of the 10?

That's what we've been saying for while now;)

It's the reasoning behind the name "etc."... here's another one:rolleyes: :D. Much like the Sadowsky story, Kevin has had many requests for a "traditional" looking bass... IOW a Jazz. The idea was to incorporate the features that make a Brubaker a Brubaker into that look and see where it goes.

I'm going to try and check it out soon.

I agree. I'll pass that along. This is a first try at this and I'm sure that was done for the sake of expedience. The regular Brubakers have tiltback headstocks and don't need string trees.

IRL it actually looks pretty cool. I stopped by to check it out and it's impressive. The Alder body gives it a well-defined full range sound with some serious heft to it. Here's Kevin with the bass:

It's smaller than my 78 Jazz, a little narrower in the waist. I didn't compare it to my FMT 5 which is a downsized body. The weight was nice and it balanced well... I took a thin leather strap and put it on smooth side out and the bass just sat wherever I put it.

Not yet. This really just came together pretty much this month. They're going to be built in his shop so pricing may be similar to or maybe less than the NBS models. Since it's a US Brubaker, who knows what the options may be;)

Forgot to mention, this one has Nordstrand pickups and Bartolini NTMB preamp.
