Inches: Do they Matter?

There's a lot of differences between different makes and models of cabs.
You can speak of general characteristics of different n x n" configurations, but you can't stereotype all of them.
Some 4x10" are muddy.
Some 1x15" are fast and punchy (Bag End comes to mind).
Some 2x10" go lower than some 2x15" (Acme vs. almost whatever).
Personally, I like multiple 10" or multiple 10" plus one or more 12", but you might not like the same tone I like.
Look and listen till you find what you want or settle for a compromise.

size does matter, and you have to spend time with different speaker cabinets with different configurations and cabinet designs to decide what works. example: Ampeg's famous 8x10 is a sealed design that doesn't bother with a HF unit. on the other hand, Ampeg's own PR410HLF is a triple-ported 4x10. there are legions of players who will swear by either of these cabinets and yet they sound pretty different from each other despite both using 10" drivers. you cannot simply say "well i tried some random 4x10 at a store and i decided it sucks."
Personally speaking i have a preference for larger speakers and unconventional cabinets. my proposed future rig's cabinets will be a large W-style folded horn, like an old Orange, Fender 400 PS bin, Acoustic 301 or EV Eliminator and a Traynor 9x8 beside it. i'm lovin' it.

anyway I realized that you must try an amp in a gig situation to really tell if it's good! I like the sound of my 15' when I'm playing alone... and I don't like very much smaller speakers when playing at the shop... it's a big empty room! but during rehearsals I always wonder if I could hear myself better with smaller speakers....!!??that's why I always rent amps before buying them!!So I could change if I don't like them too much...
