Increasing shoulder strength to support heavier basses?

there is no better exercise routine for youre entire body than squats , deadlifts , dips , and pullups , train circuit style with those 4 exercises 3 times a week , youll be good , your shoulders are deltoids ,and a million other tiny muscles really only responsible for moving/rotating your arm and some pushing and pulling , and pushing and pulling assistance , shrugs are gonna work your core ,traps , and grip , but that can be accomplished with deadlifts and pullups .Your whole body needs to be strong especially your back ,legs ,and core/abs

+1 on the overall fitness/core strength advise!

IMO stance, posture and overall body form are really important here as well. We're all built differently and we play differently so there's really no right or wrong exactly.
I will say this: Being the animals we are we're genetically wired to endure awkward and uncomfortable positions for prolonged period of times when concentrating intensely enough on the task at hand. Bass playing can be one of those tasks.
