Double Bass Indenitfication

I'd say
don't be too afraid of the nay-sayers on the repairs - they can all be addressed - even if you take them one at a time - make it playable & enjoy
if you need serious crack repairs or if the center seam needs cleated the top will have to come off which is major surgery
but even that is not the end of the world for a free quality solid aged DB
I love flatbacks - could be German or Tyrol - it matters not - in good playing condition (healthy as they say) it will bring

the rib seams don't appear separated
those long old cracks on the top could be a problem but really only if the top has sunk (lost it's curve) near the bridge feet - and I can't see any of that
rib cracks are usually not a problem in themselves but boy it looks like it was abused (what kind of music did great granddad play, Rockabilly? lol)
I have some very similar tuners/plates on a 1930s Voight & Geiger bass - they cleaned up quite nicely - brass with steel worms most probably
the neck looks okay (if not warped - can't tell) and I don't see any problems at the button or heel - can't tell anything about the fingerboard but that can be replaced if necessary
one long thin cleat inside the back seam and some side to side pressure could close the gap
i've done all these repairs myself very successfully without formal training - just lots of research, reading, studying & patience (+ tons of clamps)

oh, and also - pegbox cracks are usually repairable with a good gluejob even when slightly twisted

Still trying to identify the bass, i'm hoping when the top comes up that might help.

Is that your shop or another person in Eastern Oregon (where- that is a big area); if so, who is it. I spent a lot of time living in the high desert back in the day when Bend had just over 20,000 people; now there are almost that many golf courses.....
