Individual in-ear mixes - how?

Can you back up and explain WHY you want to use in-ears? Why do you think that's a good idea, and one worth spending money on? Other than the fact that you need different mixes for each member of the band when wearing ears, what do you want out of separate mixes for each member of the band?

well, we think that we can improve our performance that way while having less gear to carry if we can go amp- and cab-less on stage. furthermore we want to try playing with a click and overall, the sound for the audience should be better without amps on stage. we play dropped A-tuning and stagesound has always been a mess that way.

but it's a justified question whether it's worth the costs and effort in ear monitoring involves.
 
Colonel, you'll notice in your other thread that no one mentioned monitoring of any sort as a solution to a bad on-stage sound. You need to figure out how to get a good, tight mix, given your instruments and style of music. Patching over a poor mix with in-ear monitors just means a poor mix in your ears instead of all around you.

could you explain to me what the signal path would look like?

Again,

Drum Mics -> Main Mixer -> Aux out of Main Mixer (this means you'll need at least one aux out on your main mixer) -> Splitter or Chain -> Monitoring Mixers

Instruments -> Main Mixer -> Parallel Outs of Main Mixer -> Splitter or Chain -> Monitoring Mixers

If all your monitoring mixers have "parallel outs" for each channel then you can just chain them with snakes, otherwise, you'll need to build some sort of XLR splitter box for each signal.
