Update nearly three years later.
At some point, not sure when, my right monitor started putting out exceedingly low output. Between that, and some dental work I'd had done AND not being 100% happy with my initial molds, felt it was a good time to get a reshell anyway. Have them check out the drivers while they were opened up.
In short, they (InEarz) have definitely grown in the three years since. Looks like they have an ownership group, don't recall the name off-hand. Still very personable & responsive, though. They quoted 3-5 weeks, I had them in hand at exactly 5 weeks from the date they received the impressions. Shipped back the same day I sent an inquiry on the status, so I'm not sure if they needed that nudge or it was a coincidence.
Prices have jumped. The P450s that started at $475 in 2016 start at $750 now, and that's without the ADEL tech. Ouch. The reshelling was $300, so I'm basically in it at the new price now anyway. Side note - impressions jumped considerably. In 2016, was $65. Went to the same place, was $150 this time. Called a couple other places, seemed about par. That part's no fun (but no fault of InEarz).
The upshot of that is the quality is definitely improved. The moldings are different - a little more material outside, and not as deep in the canal. The fit was 100% perfect and they sound brilliant now. They did not mention if there was an issue with the drivers, but there was no repair charge.
They are much more isolated now, so if that's an issue for you - get the ports. For me, it's better. Like with any custom buds, took a minute to adjust to the feeling, then you quickly forget they're even there.
They are quieter than say, iPhone ear buds. I'm not sure the science of it, imagine it's an impedance thing Need a bit more gain, but that's no big deal. Also, as mentioned, they do not do the psychoacoustic thing like consumer buds do, so you won't be overwhelmed by thump when you first use them. Again, a positive IMO - they are very reference-like, and will handle/reproduce as much bass as you want to give them. Highs and mids, very accurate and well-balanced.
Still would recommend them highly. They are not nearly as undercutting on price as they were in 2016, but they are very high quality. And historically, they've done sales around black friday/christmas time. Would jump on that if I were in the market.
