inexpensive 5 string basses?

well, the mikro 5 is going back. the 1-way truss rod was maxed so the factory strings are all but lying on the fretboard, and if i had my regular extra lights, they will actually lie on the fretboard. i want to mention here that this is the third low priced ibanez i've owned with truss rod issues. another mikro has the same issue, and my 4 string mezzo has a frozen truss rod.

i'm thinking of getting the GSR105, as i really enjoy the neck on my GSR100EX basses, and if the body is an issue, ariex says he'll carve the body to fit me or make a new body entirely. what a guy!

i'm trying to decide if the SR205 would be an upgrade. i did really like the SR200 basses i've played at GC. any thoughts?

@pcake , I hope I am not stepping out of bounds of any TB rules, but I have a Mezzo 5 I am considering moving along. It’s a fun little bass, just don’t really play 5s that much. I love my 4 string version! PM me if you are interested!

good thought, but i'm actually selling my own mezzo 5 - it causes me a lot of shoulder pain to play. thanks for thinking of me, and good luck selling your mezzo!

Hey there this is my thought, so I have both gsr205 and sr505 and I'm actually liking the electronics in the gsr better than whats in the 505. I paid over 500$ for the 505 and for the gsr i got it for about $100. Im saying that if you try the gsr take the time to adjust the setup and pickups and i almost guarantee you'll get a great tone. That little bass impresses me and I'm not selling it even though i have a much higher end model. Its all stock. My biggest project has been making the expensive sr sound as much like the cheap gsr as i can.

Sorry, I must have misread or skipped over your part about the mezzo. Not even sure if I will sell mine. Good luck on this journey, I am sure we are all rooting for you!

i have a GSR100EX with stock pickups (and another with mustang pickups), and i like 'em. we always set up all guitars and basses when they arrive. for me, it means extra light strings first, then check the nut, adjust the relief and action and away we go!

Im hoping itll be comfortable to play.

if not, we'll take a serious look at what basses are comfortable for me, and ariex will either carve the body to suit or make a new body with a blank and keep the neck and all existing hardware.

Have you tried the classical guitar method - sitting with one foot on a small stand so that leg supports the guitar/bass?

i have in the past, but things change, and i should try it with various footrest heights. thanks!

Am I misunderstanding something here? If the rod is max'd out (meaning tightened as far as it can go) and the strings are on the fingerboard, wouldn't one just loosen the truss rod to get more relief in the neck, alleviating that issue?

You might like one of the glarry ibanez style basses. I could see one of those 5ers and you totally customize it to make it work for you. Id love to get something like that and convert it to headless personally.
