Inexpensive scale for weighing a bass...

This was a suggestion for people who might like to have something to weigh instruments with.

So do you guys just sit around weighing instruments all day when you're bored?

Seriously, I don't get it.
I've played for over three decades and I've never weighed any of the hundreds of pieces of gear I've owned.

I just picked up this very affordable luggage scale off of ebay, makes weighing instruments very easy:

It takes a CR2032 battery which is not included. I recently bought a sheet of them for my D'Addario tuners so I was set.

Edit: Just noticed this auction says it ships from China. Mine came from Staten Island, NY in 3 days. Not sure why the auction changed. I paid $4.79 for mine including shipping.

My bass is precious , and we play metal, so the only scale to use, measures in troy pounds and in troy oz, so my bass either weighs more in pounds, or less in ounces. .

I believe a few of those in countries that follow the metric system, would be (a)massing basses and equipment.

The Iridium pick guard and fret markers, really round out the bass.
Had to fire my luthier, when he wanted to use german silver frets, the bass is fretless.

I went with radium for the fret markers. Makes it easier to see what you're doing on a dark stage.

My wife bought me a Pampered chef digital scale, which goes up to 5kG (about 11 pounds) in 1 gram increments. I also have a postal scale that goes to 3kG (about 6.6 pounds) in 1 gram increments. On items within the limits of the postal scale, they agree within 1 gram.

So, I know precisely how much each of my basses weigh. As a result, having a to heavy bass is no longer an excuse for any mistakes I make while playing.

How do you go about headless basses? Those fish scales can't hook to anything.

You're right... stick to your method. Way less "complicated".

That's not accurate enough for me, and you'll just have to accept that fact.
1/2 a pound makes a pretty big difference.

Why are so many fighting the idea that bathroom scales are inaccurate?

This happens every time the subject comes up & my bathroom scales are still just as inaccurate as the last time this subject came up.

Because many just automatically fight anything "new" or different to them.


I agree on the inaccuracy of the bathroom method and bathroom scales in general.

I've never once desired knowing the weight of a bass i own. Now i might look at weight specs when buying one to ensure it doesn't weigh a ton, but that's where the interest ends.

the only time I use a scale is to weigh the case when it's full of stuff before I get on a plane so I can make sure it is under 50 lbs. usually has bass, pedals, cables, shirts, socks, whatever else I can stuff in there.

And this is an easy way for someone selling a bass to offer that information. I didn't say this was for weighing a bass I already own (which I can also easily do now and it works better than my kitchen scale or bathroom maneuver) but apparently that's where some folks went.
