Inexpensive scale for weighing a bass...

Is there any reason other than for selling on here, eBay, etc why anyone would need to weigh their bass? I'm an 18 yr playing vet and no rookie, but I also work out and such so for me personally, at my relatively young age, weight is in no way shape or form a concern for me. So I'm genuinely curious if there is some other rationale for needing to weigh your bass besides to post the info for selling?

Shipping. I have accounts with a couple of shippers and I can do an accurate shipping label at home knowing the weight. Yes, I have shipped instruments that I wasn't selling.

I have a friend who also thought that weight didn't matter to him. So even though I warned him about the abnormally heavy weight of a bass, he bought it. Then he gigged with it and the next time I saw him he couldn't wait to get rid of it.

Since weight CAN matter, a downside to having an accurate measure would be...?

I just picked up this very affordable luggage scale off of ebay, makes weighing instruments very easy:

It takes a CR2032 battery which is not included. I recently bought a sheet of them for my D'Addario tuners so I was set.

Edit: Just noticed this auction says it ships from China. Mine came from Staten Island, NY in 3 days. Not sure why the auction changed. I paid $4.79 for mine including shipping.

Great! I hate having to go to Hardee’s and use their roast beef scale to weigh my instruments.

If you already have a home scale weigh yourself then pick up the bass and stand on the scale and weigh yourself again minus the difference

-So I play with a funk/soul band on weekends. Every time we play a show I weigh my bass before I go on stage. We play for about 2 hours and I play some pretty heavy riffs so I need to make sure it has enough mass before I go on. I use a super long scale to weight it because that's the most accurate type of scale. ...Well, last weekend in the middle of the set, during my Larry Graham bass solo cover my bass just died. (Yes I was dressed like a sailor). I stormed off in tears of course. Before I put my dead bass back in its case I decided to weigh my bass one last time and I swear it weighed EXACTLY 21 Grahams less. True story.

I have a digital fish weighing scale that goes to fifty lbs. and is very accurate and very portable. Works really well for weighing a bass. I've taken it to stores with me.

I made a up a loop. The way I made it , it won't damage a bass and goes on and off in no time at all.

BTW, do you scale the bass before shipping?
