INFELD superalloy experience.......

I'm trying a set of the Infeld superalloys (45-105), so far so good. Who's used em and what did you think- would you buy another set? Do they last long enough to justify the bigger price?

(please, don't hijack with "I only use rotos/labellas/ etc".... I'm really only interested in feedback on the Infelds) Thanks in advance!

Hey bro. Since no one else wants to chime in. I'll say I liked them a lot when I tried them. I believe they are alloy 52 over the steel core giving a nice balanced tone with good longevity. Nice strings and all but the cost is more of a result of them coming from Austria than a vast superiority of quality.

they sound and feel good now (a bit mellower than the pro steels I normaly use). Only time will tell on how long they last.

Like any string set, they seemed to work better with some basses than others. After trying several brands on a alder-redwood top Peavey Cirrus 5, the SA's were by far the winner. They just worked so well with that particular bass. I got good longevity out of them, and used them exclusively for quite a while. I had a Walnut Cirrus at the same time, and they sounded lifeless on that one.

I thought about them, but with the price, I stuck with GHS Progressives in custom gauges 45-60-80-105 instead at half the price and better availability.

Tried them once and liked them a lot. Thought they had nice mids/low-mids that were missing from other strings on my bass (Zon Sonus). They lasted a long time, but I'm not a string killer and I don't think it justified the price premium. I am now using Circle K strings, and at $16 vs $45 a set for a four-banger, couldn't be happier.

Oh - I forgot to say - if these strings are anything like T-I's famous Spirocore double bass strings, they should last a long, long time! (Depending on the player, a set of Spirocores have been known to last over twenty-five years!)

Review update..... they lasted pretty well, and had a nice balanced, mellow tone ( though not as much snarl as I like). They cost 3 times as much as my usual Pro steels (D'Addario) but lasted maybe twice as long- so I guess they don't make my grade.

I do the same thing regarding Cost vs Lifespan as you do. Switching back to Prosteels makes perfect sense to me after reading your post. The Superalloy's are far from being priced cheap, I bet I could order 3 sets of my usual D'Addario XL's for the same price. I also agree that they don't have a super bright tone, even when they're brand new, and I also find their tone to sound very balanced. I think they're the perfect string for this particular bass (Ristola 6-string) for the tone I was looking to get out of it. I find the Superalloy's tone to be unique in the low mids, which really works well for my goals.

I'm also very, very surprised at the Superalloy's lifespan. I haven't been gigging at all, but my set still sounds pretty darn good after being on my bass for 18 months, which is unheard of for me. I haven't tried any other brand of Rounds that keep a good, useable tone (for me) for this long.

I do wish they offered a few different gauges; maybe I'd like a slightly higher tension on my G and C strings, but I'm adjusting to their feel with practice. I've been entertaining the idea of trying Fodera Nickel roundwounds on my bass, but I'm going to stick with the Superalloy's, their tone is perfect. I'm getting ready to order another set from BSO.

How do they compare to SIT Foundations, DR Pure Blues or Dunlop Super Brights?

From what was said on here about being less zingy and more mid and low mid heavy they honestly sound close to sadowsky blue label strings. Also more flexible and not grabby. So they probably feel close to all 3 of those mentioned above.
