Info on this Danelectro

I came across this on eBay. I know its a 60's DC bass but that neck isnt the usual neck I see on the DC basses. Could this just be a custom project or were these actually made at one point?

Danelectro produced a bass in the 60's that only had 15 frets and approximately 25" scale. Don't know if thats an original or not.

That appears to be a mid-60s inline headstock on a 15-fret neck. This configuration was often referred to as a "shorthorn" model bass.

The inline tuner configuration was being used at the same time that Dano was cranking out guitars under the Coral brand, like the Vinnie Bell electric sitar. The interesting thing about this particular model is the older body style mated to the newer neck. I'd estimate a build date of around 1966-67.

I love these basses. Looking at it on a bad connection on my cell phone... the headstock is definitely wrong, but it may just be modified. They are going for over $700 at guitar shows in worn shape.

I think the model was U1 ? Definitely not 'DC'. I've only seen them in the copper finish.

Most U-series Danelectros I've seen have been single cut Les Paul-style bodies. With an odd bird like this one though, I suppose anything is possible.

Did a little searching. The body is definitely the U1 Dano style, the neck may be one of the off-brands or a graft.
