My wife passed away recently and left her bass that she played in high school in Elgin, Ill and briefly at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester NY. It has not been played in many, many years - we married in 1986 and I don't remember her ever playing it. It has been kept in a soft bag in a closet with no humidity issues. I have no idea what to do with it or its relative worth. I would like it to be used in a meaningful way. Please give me your opinions on this instrument - ie its viability, monetary worth, and general knowledge. I have seen a few of his instruments at various violin stores on the web.

If you tell us the region of the world you live in we can refer you to reputable shops that you could deal with. It is a respected maker and the bass has value.
You say you want it meaningfully used. Once you find the approximate value of it you could contact a local school of music to find young, serious, but low income players in need of an instrument and offer it at a fraction of the value.

Look up Steve Swan String Bass, not far from you. That shop is reputable and will not mislead you regardless of how you decide to proceed. Otherwise more pics will help the folks here once this is moved to the double bass part of the site.
